  • Stray carts can cause accidents and create an unattractive and blighted appearance in the community.
  • As good neighbors, we want to help prevent stray shopping carts from cluttering the nearby streets of our neighborhoods.
  • If you see a stray cart, help beautify our City by calling toll free 1-(855) 500-CART (2278) and reporting the location of this cart. This number operates 24 hours a day and is staffed by the California Shopping Cart Retrieval Corporation in an effort to assist in the removal of stray shopping carts from city streets

Meet your Public Works Director

DarylGrigsbyDaryl Grigsby is the Public Works Director, and his duties include water production and distribution, wastewater collection, solid waste collection, street and alley maintenance, park maintenance, storm water management, traffic management, fleet and facilities, and capital project delivery. Prior to his work in Pomona, he served as the Public Works Director for the City of Kirkland, Washington; Water and Land Resources Division Manager for King County, Director of Seattle Transportation Department, Director of Water Pollution Control for King County, and Deputy Director for San Diego Water Utilities Operations Division. He has over twenty-two years in public works management and thirty years in local government service.

In 2009 he was selected as Top Ten Public Works Professional by American Public Works Association (APWA). Daryl is currently serving on the APWA Board as Director At-Large for Environmental Management. Over the last several years he has been a member of various national and local APWA committees, including the Chapter Advocacy Task Force, the Washington Chapter Board of Directors, the Government Affairs Committee, and Membership Committee. In 2008 he received the Washington Chapter’s Roy Morse Award for ‘outstanding professional and technical accomplishments in the field of public works.’  In addition, Daryl is an author and currently involved in mentoring elementary and Jr. High students in Pomona.

Daryl resides in Pomona and proudly leads the Public Works Team that strives to make a better community through excellent public assets and service.

The City of Pomona Public Works Department Mission is "Providing essential services and infrastructure to enhance our community's life every day".

Department Function
The Department provides a broad base of services for the community through its divisions.  Services include quality customer care in the areas of: delivery of water, system sewer conveyance, trash and recycling collection to Pomona residents and businesses, and the maintenance of all City equipment, including; construction and maintenance of streets, storm drains, street lighting and traffic signals; maintenance of City buildings and facilities; landscape of City parks and medians as well as maintenance of trees located within the public rights-of-way; engineering and contract administration of public improvements; review of design and construction of public/private development, environmental compliance and oversight, plan review, permit issuance for and inspection of building development within the City.  Additionally, the Department oversees the implementation of the City’s Capital Improvement Plan and General Sanitation Fee program.
