Accessory Dwelling Unit Ordinance


On January 1, 2017, several State bills took effect updating how local agencies regulate Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) formerly and commonly known as second units. The new State law is intended to address the shortage of affordable housing in California by easing restrictions on ADUs. The City of Pomona is currently in the process of preparing an ordinance in order to bring the City’s Zoning Code into compliance with State law.


Several public meetings have been held in order to obtain input regarding ADUs from the public as well as the Planning and Historic Preservation Commissions and City Council. The meetings conducted are listed below:
