Dependent Eligibility Requirements
- Children- Your children, adopted children or step children are eligible to be enrolled in medical, dental, and vision insurance until the age of twenty-six (26). There is no requirement of student status.
- Spouse- Legally married spouse, you must provide the benefits office with a copy of your marriage certificate at the time of enrollment.
- Domestic Partner- Registered, same-sex domestic partners over the age of eighteen (18) or opposite sex domestic partners if one partner is age sixty-two (62) or older. Must be registered through the Secretary of State. Domestic Partner registration packets are available in Human Resources for your convenience. You may also download the registration form from the Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.ca.gov.
- Disabled Dependent- A child over age twenty-six (26) who has never married and is incapable of self support due to a mental or physical condition that existed prior to the age of twenty-six (26). Special forms are required to be submitted to CalPERS for certification. Forms are available in Human Resources.
