Fitness and Wellness Policy 
 
The purpose of the City's Fitness and Wellness Policy is to encourage, motivate and challenge employees to take an active interest in their health and well-being.
 Eligibility- This Policy applies to all Regular Full Time City employees.
 
The Policy establishes a "Voluntary Fitness and Wellness Program" which encourages participation in health screenings, wellness training sessions, and fitness activities. Employees who participate in the program and meet the minimum requirements will be eligible for fitness-related expenditures per the Policy.
 
The Fitness and Wellness Policy contains the following elements: 
      1. Health Screenings
      2. Wellness Training/Education
      3. Fitness Participation
      4. Fitness Reimbursement
A. Health Screenings
 
Employees are encouraged to receive periodic health screenings from their own personal physician. In order to qualify for the Fitness Reimbursement, employees must complete an annual physical exam or body scan. 
 
B. Wellness Training/Education
 
Periodic Wellness and Training Education sessions will be scheduled throughout the year. These sessions will cover topics including, but not limited to; smoking cessation, nutrition, fitness, and stress management. In order to qualify for the Fitness Reimbursement, employees must attend a minimum of four (4) City-provided Wellness Training sessions. 
 
C. Fitness Participation
 
Employees are encouraged to participate in some type of fitness activity. Examples of fitness activities that would qualify for the Fitness Reimbursement include the following:
      1. Complete a 5K or 10K run/walk
      2. Walk for at least 20 minutes for 90 days in a 12-month period (Complete Log)
      3. Complete a 5 mile hike
      4. Complete a 10 mile bike ride 
D. Fitness Reimbursement
 
Eligible employees who meet the minimum requirement of the Fitness and Wellness Program will be reimbursed up to $150.00 each fiscal year for approved expenditures such as running shoes, gym membership fees, exercise equipment, bicycles, or any other item or program which will help improve the physical activity and overall fitness level of the employees. The Wellness Coordinator and/or Safety Officer shall evaluate such reimbursement and make a recommendation to the Risk Manager who has final authority.
 
To be eligible for the fitness reimbursement each employee must complete all of the following requirements druing the same fiscal year: 
  •  Complete an annual physical exam or body scan; 
  •  Attend a minimum of four (4) Wellness Training Sessions; and, 
  •  Complete one (1) fitness activity. 
 
Employees will be required to submit a completed Wellness Program Participation form to request the Fitness Reimbursement.
