Jessica's Law

Welcome to the City of Pomona's Sex Offender Map portal.

From this page the public may look at maps related to the effect of state sex offender residency restrictions on the City. The City of Pomona is pleased to make this resource available to the citizens of Pomona. While we continue to work hard to provide accurate and up-to-date information, the data are preliminary and may change upon further investigation.

To maintain confidentiality while indicating the approximate location, the dots identify in general the street location but do not represent the exact location where an offender lives (available on the state database maps). The zoom capacity has been limited and the dots have been enlarged and offset to keep the exact location from being determined.

As a convenience, a link is also provided to the California Department of Justice website ("Megan's Law database") where information on the location of registered sex-offenders is provided. Further information and restrictions on the use of the Megan's Law database is provided on the DOJ website. It is a crime to use the Megan's Law database to harass or Harm a registered sex offender.

Since 1947, the State of California has had residency restrictions requiring that persons convicted of certain sexually-based crimes report their residency with the local police. Currently, registered sex offenders (called "290 Registrants" after California Penal Code section 290) must comply with one of two laws restricting the locations where they may live, Megan's Law and Jessica's Law, depending on their date of release from prison on parole and the crime committed:

  • "Megan's Law" requires that only 290 Registrants convicted of PC 288 (lewd or lascivious acts with a child; child molestation) or PC 288.5 (continuous sexual abuse of a child) reside at least 1320 feet from all schools (grade K-8) while on parole. The restriction (as stated) was in effective January 1, 1999 through November 7, 2006.
  • "Jessica's Law" requires that all 290 Registrants released on parole, or taking up residence after parole at a new location, after November 7,2006, reside at least 2000 feet from any school or park where children regularly congregate. This restriction is effective for 290 Registrants paroled since November 7, 2006 or paroled 290 Registrants moving to a different location since November 7, 2006.

The depiction of the areas restricting residence under Megan's Law and Jessica's Law are for general reference only, and not intended to provide legal or other advice as to probable locations where 290 Registrants may legally reside. Additional protected locations near which 290 Registrants may not reside that are not depicted on these maps may cause further restriction of residency areas. Due to the combination of dates of parole, changes in Megan's Law site applicability, and establishment of schools, under certain circumstances certain individuals may ~located within the areas depicted on the Megan's Law and/or Jessica's Law maps. It is a crime to use the Megan's Law database to harass or harm a registered sex offender.
