Energy Efficiency - About the Project

Energy Efficiency Chapter of the Green Plan

About the Project

The Energy Efficiency Chapter of the Green Plan for the City of Pomona is part of a unified regional framework for meeting long-term energy efficiency goals. This framework will allow the Energy Efficiency Chapter developed for each City to function as a stand-alone document tailored to individual communities. The City and the San Gabriel Council of Governments (SGVCOG) will be hosting a number of workshops and meetings to gather community input, which will guide the development of the Energy Efficiency Chapter.

The Energy Efficiency Chapter will:

  • Summarize the City’s existing and future energy use
  • Project the City’s existing future energy use (through 2020)
  • Identify energy efficiency goals and targets
  • Create an energy efficiency strategy to meet the City’s energy reduction goals
  • Assist in meeting State and regional goals of greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction and long-term energy efficiency

Twenty-seven of the thirty-one SGVCOG member agencies are currently participating in the Energy Efficiency Chapter project, which is funded by California utility ratepayers and administered by Southern California Edison (SCE). The funding was awarded to the SVGCOG to implement activities to achieve statewide energy efficiency goals.

In addition to complying with the regulatory requirements of AB 32 and SB 375, the City is developing a Green Plan, which is funded by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant that will develop goals for energy efficiency, conservation, and usage, and identify strategies to achieve those goals through efforts to increase energy efficiency, reduce Green House Gas Emissions or reduce energy consumption through investments, or by encouraging behavioral changes. The energy management goals will require an analysis of the status and trends of energy supply and demand by the City and residents and businesses located in the City. The Green Plan will be completed late 2012

Project Timeline

The project kicked off in July 2011 and will take place over the next 15 months. The anticipated completion of the project is October 2012.
