The Pomona City Council approved a Military Banner program in September 2005 to honor those Pomona residents serving on active military duty in a war zone.
Fundraising efforts were launched through civic groups, employee organizations, service clubs, businesses, and families throughout Pomona, and the first installation of military banners was in place for Veterans Day 2007.
More banners have been added each year, and are proudly flying on Mission, Garey, and Park Avenues in the Civic Center area.
Purchase of banners is funded entirely through donations. Banner cost is $250, which includes the banner, hardware, and installation. Banners will be awarded to the family of the honoree upon conclusion of the program. Families may choose to purchase a banner or can be placed on a wait list until sufficient donations are received to cover the cost.
